Main Task - Target Audience

In relation to our pitch to the group from last week, we have taken all of this into consideration, and have now decided on a target audience.

Naomi and I don't believe that choosing a target audience for a music video is the same as that of a short film, or an advert. You have to use the music to figure out a target audience, and work from there. Christina Aguilera went from teen pop sensation, thus relating to all the teenagers across the globe, to a sexual rebel, which enticed more men into her music. She then ditched both these images, and made her soul album, keeping both the teenagers who have grown up with her, and the men and women who have discovered her along the way. Her target audience in terms of her music is around 14-35, as this is the market who know her music best.

In terms of our video, we were quite apprehensive with putting an age on it. If you strip away the music, and added dialogue, to create a film, then the target audience would be between 16-25 - people who may have been through the story themselves, or have some form of relation to the ideas. However, with the music, the target audience is very hard to choose. Music videos are shown on music channels, which tend to be watched by teenagers. This leads to a problem, though, as teenagers won't be able to relate to the story within our video.

Taking all of this into consideration, we have decided that our target audience is similar to that of Christina's music - 14-35 - as our idea is aimed towards slightly older adults, whereas the music will be listened to by millions of teenagers. It is quite likely that the majority will be female, as Christina targets her music towards them, and women like her lyrics and image. It could also be a mixture of ethnicity groups, and the demographics for the video will be very hard to tell until we have completed the piece and get some further feedback on the actual video.
